Acoustic Buoys (Son-O-Mermaid).

Developed for Fredrick Simons at Princeton
Son-O-Mermaid is a long duration acoustic recorder designed to for synchronous recording of seismic pressure waves. The system currently in development offers a positive energy balance thanks to 4 solar panels. By offering near real time mid ocean seismic data, Son-O-Mermaid might be able to close the seismic coverage gap over the Earth’s oceans.

Surface buoy with battery storage, energy scavenging (solar, wind, wave), and command, control, communications.

Hydrophone depths to 1,000 meters

Multi-element acoustic arrays

Durations greater than 6 months (indefinite in some environments)
